Neuro-Interventional Surgery Fellowship Program

On July 1, 2013, the Chattanooga Campus established a one year fellowship in Neuro-Interventional Surgery, sponsored by the Department of Surgery.  Funding is provided by Tennessee Interventional and Imaging Associates (TIIA) and is closely aligned with the Erlanger Department of Radiology. This is the first program of its kind for the Statewide University of Tennessee Graduate Medical Education System. Currently the Fellowship Program Director is Harris Hawk, MD. Steven Quarfordt, MD, serves as the Fellowship Associate Program Director.

The program is for graduates of Radiology or Neurosurgery Programs to develop additional skills and experience in Neuro-Interventional Surgical procedures.

Harris Hawk, MD, received his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in 2006. He completed his internship and Diagnostic Radiology residency at the University of Virginia Hospital. Dr. Hawk completed a Neuro-Radiology fellowship as well as Interventional Neuro-Radiology fellowship from the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Hawk is board certified in Diagnostic Radiology by the American Board of Radiology.

At the present time, the program is not seeking accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education but is closely following requirements for an Endovascular Surgery Program.
